Hello! My name is Kelly and I am a first-generation Southeast Asian filmmaker and photographer based out of Madison, WI. I received my BFA in Film from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 2022. In that time, I worked on a variety of different projects and genres to sharpen my skills and diversify my range. I have worked as a lead videographer and editor for multiple documentaries and short films, as well as gaffed, gripped, PA'd, art directed on many sets. I have spent a number of years working with many different communities and have been able to share so many beautiful stories.
You'll notice my recent portfolio examples are a bit more bare, and that's because I currently work as a Media Specialist for a healthcare facility. Unfortunately, I cannot display a lot of my work as a lot of it is locked in HIPAA and PII, and I have a duty to protect the wonderful people I serve. Rest assured, I film, photograph and edit almost every single day.
My passions lie in short films and mixed media art. I love bizarre and odd things, concepts that make you feel both uncomfortable but warm. I try to approach my art in the same way. My background shapes a lot of my work and I believe in making a space in film for stories like mine, from other women of color and first-generation filmmakers. I carry a lot of my culture with me as I continue to make films - from the folk storytelling to Thai marionettes that depict great epics. My skill set is rooted in always trying to find the best way to tell a story, whether that be traditional documentary, animation, narrative, or even claymation. Other small things I'm interested and have gotten into are: Super 8mm, 35mm, and archiving old footage. If you feel like I suit your needs, please feel free to contact me! I would love to hear from you.
